Find the answers to our most frequently asked questions below:
What subjects do we teach?
Our core subjects are English, Maths, and Science. In addition, we offer 11+ and other exam preparation, including SATs, GCSEs, and A-levels. Our exam prep is designed not only to teach exam techniques, past paper practice, and time management, but also to build deep understanding and knowledge in each subject, ensuring children are confident and fully prepared.
For our youngest children, we focus on foundations stage skills such as: developing early literacy, numeracy, and key learning behaviours.
All lessons are delivered by specialised, qualified teachers who personalise teaching to each child’s age, ability, and learning style, helping them develop knowledge, confidence, and independent learning skills.
How much does it cost?
Our 70-minute sessions start at £36. While our tuition may be higher than some providers, it represents excellent value for money because every lesson is delivered by specialised, experienced, and fully qualified teachers who tailor their teaching to your child’s individual needs.
Investing in a qualified tutor ensures your child receives: - Personalised learning that targets their strengths and addresses their challenges. - Expert guidance on exams, coursework, and key skills that make a real difference to progress. - High-quality resources and planning that you won’t get with less experienced tutors. - Active, independent learning—students are encouraged to think for themselves, work things out, and solve problems rather than simply completing worksheet after worksheet or being told the answers. - Motivation and confidence-building, helping your child engage fully with their learning. - Consistency and accountability, ensuring every session contributes meaningfully to their long-term success.
Choosing the right tutor isn’t just about completing homework—it’s about helping your child develop independent thinking, achieve their potential, and build lifelong skills. That’s the true value behind our tuition.
What ages do you teach?
We tutor children from ages 4 to 18, supporting them throughout their entire school journey.
Our specialised, experienced, and fully qualified teachers tailor lessons to each child’s needs—whether building foundations in primary school, preparing for SATs, GCSEs, or excelling at A-levels. Parents can be confident their child is receiving expert guidance every step of the way.
Can your tutors come to our home to tutor?
Currently, our tutors do not offer in-home tutoring. All lessons take place in our well-equipped learning centre, which is designed to provide an optimal learning environment with minimal distractions. The centre allows our tutors to focus fully on each child, using a range of resources and tools that would be difficult to replicate at home.
However, if you would prefer your child to learn from home, we offer live online tutoring through our bespoke learning platform. This allows your child to benefit from the same high-quality teaching, personalised lesson plans, and interactive activities as they would in the centre—all from the comfort of your home. Sessions can be scheduled at the same times your child would normally attend, ensuring consistency and continuity in their learning.
Our online platform is particularly effective for children who might struggle to travel to the centre or who require flexible access, while still receiving bespoke support from a qualified tutor.
For more information about online tutoring or to discuss the best options for your child, please contact us on 01277 621515 for our Billericay centre, or 01268 762815 for our Wickford centre.
What days/times do you offer?
We are open 6 days a week (Monday- Saturday) and have sessions running at a variety of different times. If you would like more information about our current availability, please call 01277 621515.
Can you tutor for the 11+?
Yes, we provide specialised 11+ tutoring for children preparing for selective school entrance exams. Our experienced tutors cover all key areas, tailoring lessons to each child’s strengths and areas for development.
We focus not only on exam techniques and practice papers, but also on building knowledge, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking, helping children approach questions with confidence and independence.
Our personalised approach has resulted in an excellent pass rate, ensuring your child gains the skills, confidence, and mindset to succeed in the 11+ and beyond.
Are there lessons during the school holidays?
Yes! We’re open for 48 weeks of the year. We close for 2 weeks at Christmas and 2 weeks at Easter. During half terms, we continue lessons on the usual days and times. Over the summer holidays, we move to morning sessions. This allows children to keep learning without losing momentum over the break. eks make it difficult for us to keep sessions consistent and fill the space when your child isn’t attending. Regular attendance ensures the best progress and helps us maintain stable scheduling for all students.
How do I know how my child is progressing?
After each lesson, your child’s tutor writes a short feedback note on how they worked, which you can view via the Parent Portal. You can also see examples of the work completed during the session.
We reassess students near the end of each big term to track progress and adjust planning accordingly. These results can be shared with you, and we’re always happy to answer any questions.
Is all the work done on a computer?
No, not at all! While we have computers in our rooms and each child logs in to their personal portal to see their lesson plan, the work is a mix of different activities. From their portal, children can print off tasks to complete on paper as well as work on the computer.
Our sessions are broken down into a series of short, varied activities to keep motivation and focus high. Some activities are completed on the computer, some are written, and some are game-based—all carefully planned to support each child’s individual targets.
We’re fortunate to have our own learning platform, but we take a flexible approach to ensure the best mix of learning methods for every child.
My child has additional needs, can you cater for them?
We teach children with a variety of needs at the centre, including ADHD, dyslexia, ASD, hearing impairment and global delay (plus many more). It is important that we establish the best way to tutor your child as all the children that we teach deserve to have their needs met. We always endeavour to work with parents to ensure their child is in the right environment for their needs.
Do you give homework?
Yes we do. Homework is an important part of the Kip McGrath programme as it consolidates learning from the session. We appreciate that some children get a lot of homework from school and this may also cause them some anxiety, we aim for our homework to be stress-free and the children are given incentives to complete their homework each week. On average homework should take no more than 30 minutes and should be able to complete it independently.
Is it 1-1 tuition?
Yes and no! Our lessons are taught in small groups of up to 4 students per teacher. Each child follows their own fully personalised programme based on their individual targets and needs, so their learning is still 1-to-1 in terms of planning and support — they’re just working alongside others. This structure creates a calm and positive environment while removing the pressure some children can feel with constant 1-to-1 attention.
How long is each session?
70 minutes. Within this time the children complete a number of different activities which are planned to meet their learning needs.
Am I tied into a contract?
No. Two weeks notice is required, but there is no fixed contract.
Can my child do their lesson online?
Yes! Students can log in from home and complete their lesson just as they would in the centre using our online learning platform.
The online option is particularly useful for children who might otherwise struggle to access tutoring but would benefit from bespoke support with a qualified teacher. It’s also flexible—if your child can’t attend their usual session at the centre, they can log in from home on the same day and time to join their class.
For children preparing for exams, using physical resources, working on handwriting, or younger learners, attending in person is often more beneficial to get the most from the lesson. But the online option is always there when needed, or if your child is still building confidence and not quite ready to join us in centre.
What happens if we can't make a session?
If you know in advance (e.g. for holidays, school events, parents’ evenings or illness), please let us know and we’ll happily reschedule. We can offer an alternative day or time during the same week or nearby weeks.
If you can’t make it to the centre, your child can log in from home and join their lesson online with their tutor.
If we aren’t informed in advance, the lesson will automatically become a DIY revision session, which your child can complete at home in their own time.
If you still have questions, please reach out and get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.
