Why This Matters To Me

The whole reason I went into teaching was my own son. In his first year at school, I watched him change from an incredibly happy, confident child who could make friends anywhere, into a shell of a child who acted up and developed behavioural issues.

When we moved to a different area, he joined Year One and had the most amazing teacher who brought back some of the boy I previously knew. The difference she made to him and our family had such an impact on me that I decided to follow in my parents' footsteps and train to become a teacher myself. I figured that if I could make that kind of difference to just one other family, I would have done a wonderful thing.

I trained in primary education, worked in some very difficult areas, and eventually became a SENCO. But as a SENCO, I found myself buried in paperwork when what I really loved was working directly with children to improve their school experience.

My son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia in Year 4, and later with ADHD. I know first-hand that the school system is simply not designed for children like him. I take every child's journey very personally because I know exactly how difficult my son's has been. If I can do anything to help another child suffer less, build their self-esteem, and avoid that anxiety, that is what drives me.

Confidence and academic progress illustration

Confidence As Well As Academic Progress

Children make better progress when they feel capable, encouraged, and willing to have a go. We celebrate the small wins that build the self-belief needed to tackle the big challenges.

"For the first time ever, Scarlett has been working her way through a set of dyslexic friendly books. This is the first time she has ever been capable or confident enough to read by herself. A MASSIVE thank you to Cat and the team."

— Stephanie, parent of Scarlett
